The people who created this website are a group of graduate students in the Communicative Disorders Program in the Department of Special Education at San Francisco State University. This website was a course project supervised by Communicative Disorders Program faculty with funding support from the San Francisco State University's Institute for Civic and and Community Engagement. Spanish and Chinese translations were also completed by students from SFSU. The purpose of the project is for students to merge learning with community service by providing parents in the Bay Area with information that might help them to better understand and to support their children's speech and language development.

In the Fall 2011 semester, we conducted focus groups with English-speaking, Spanish-speaking, and Chinese-speaking parents who were members of Support for Families of Children with Disabilities to identify the information they most wanted to see in this online guide. The parents continued to give us feedback throughout the semester.
